Policies & Procedures
Attendance
In accordance with state laws, all students are held to regular and punctual attendance. Parents are to call the school office (832) 887-1756 between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on the day of each absence; immediately following the absence, the student is required to present the teacher with a written excuse stating the specific reason for the absence signed by the parents. Homework for an absent student may only be picked up after school dismissal at 3:15 p.m. and not during the school day.
Building Admittance
In order to provide a safe and secure environment ALL INDIVIDUALS entering the building during school hours (8:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.) must first come to the school office and sign-in. This is regardless of the purpose or length of the visit.
School Closure Due to Weather
United Christian Academy will follow Houston Independent School District procedure in the event of a weather emergency during the night or early morning hours. Stay tuned to your radio, KTRH 740, or local news on the television.
Discipline
Teachers are entrusted with the care, education, and spiritual growth of each student who attends United Christian Academy. In order to meet these expectations, our school provides a learning environment in which a child feels secure, happy, and interested in learning. School and classroom discipline is a vital part of this environment. Students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 receive a conduct grade which reflects behavior and cooperation within school.
Health Policy
United Christian Academy does not have the facilities or personnel to offer medical care beyond routine first aid treatment. If a student is injured or becomes ill at school, the teacher/office staff will comfort the child and contact a parent or guardian to pick the student up. It is expected that the parent will do this within an hour of being contacted. Parents are responsible to ensure that each child has up-to-date emergency numbers on file with the school office, including parent contact numbers and an alternate contact number. In the unlikely event of a medical emergency, an ambulance may be called before the parent is notified. Our primary concern is for the health and safety of the child.
Dress Code
Students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 are required to wear uniforms. Students wear shirts and blouses that are buttoned appropriately; the length of skirts must not be above the knee, no sandals or backless shoes. On field trip days, the “Eagle” shirt will be the proper clothing for the day. For more Dress Code information, please see the U.C.A. Student Handbook.
Homework
The challenging program at United Christian Academy has always required that study also be done at home. This is not only necessary for accomplishing the immediate goals but also for developing helpful habits as future education becomes more and more demanding. The amount of homework depends on the grade level and the ability and study habits of the child. Parents can help by providing encouragement and a quiet place for study.
